October 2014

AvePoint EMEA employees joined forces with a troop of Poppy Appeal volunteers, organised by husband-wife duo to lend their support to The Royal British Legion's campaign, being the 100th anniversary of when the First World War commenced.

The team unanimously took the chance to be outside of the office environment in Farringdon, on October 16th, working alongside Tom Phillips and Mary Walker to assist with the preparation to the build-up of the Poppy Appeal launch.

Tom Shipperlee, Talent Acquisition Specialist at AvePoint was captivated and intrigued about the most iconic symbol of remembrance. He said "...I am interested to know how poppies are produced behind the scenes".

The morning was spent going through paperwork, assembling poppy boxes, sorting and putting labels on 402 collection tins. Whilst the group was hard at work they had the honour of looking at wartime possessions and listening to Ray Champion 78, take a trip down memory lane share memories about his time in The National Service, discussing the heroic experiences during World War I and II.

He was delighted to educate and inform AvePoint employees about the sacrifices and courage our veterans have made for our country, in order for generations not to forget: “...It’s nice to talk until our hearts content about our story”.

Mary Walker Poppy Appeal Organiser added: “We need to widen the net of volunteers, especially through encouraging the younger generation, and a good way of contacting them is through their place of work”.

100 boxes were filled with Poppy-themed merchandise within record time, ready for distribution to their destinations.

AvePoint staff took to the streets delivering poppies to local florists, banks, fast food chain and pubs throughout the Hammersmith area.

Daisie Jope, HR Generalist from AvePoint said: "As part of Global Outreach, we decided to lend a hand and support the Poppy Appeal”. Tom and Mary were absolutely lovely, very welcoming and chatty a pleasure working with them".

AvePoint Volunteers were pleased to help such a worthy cause, they have decided to sign up and volunteer again next year!
