Volunteers from Disney had a busy Christmas period in Hammersmith and Fulham, having participated in 4 Christmas parties and donating boxes of gifts to our annual Christmas Gifts Drive.

The Community Affairs Team and Works4U worked together to organise 4 Christmas parties for 3 local organisations – Bishop Creighton House, Market Lane Residential and the Pre-School Learning Alliance.

Disney provided all the decorations and food for each party, as well as volunteers on the day to help decorate the venue, serve the guests and tidy up at the end. Furthermore, every guest that attended received a Christmas present.

Bishop Creighton House was Disney’s first destination and they had the help of nearly 30 Disney volunteers that planned 2 parties for the organisation. Almost 50 elderly guests attended the parties, many of whom had limited mobility and lived alone. Guests were also treated to a selection of Christmas songs from children at All Saints Primary School, as well as a lively and interactive sing-a-long from Gillian, a volunteer with Bishop Creighton House.

The staff and guests at Bishop Creighton House were extremely pleased with both events. Joy Houghton Brown, Volunteer Co-Ordinator at Bishop Creighton House said, “Our Christmas parties can sometimes be the only thing that our clients get out to apart from hospital. The events were thoroughly enjoyed by our clients, many of whom had made a great effort to be there. We had clients from care homes and from all across the borough, some of whom were brought in by our own volunteers. The Disney volunteers made a massive difference. Looking back I don’t know how we would have coped without them! They were a lot of fun to work with and we would all be very happy to have Disney volunteers back at any time”.

Next destination for Disney was Market Lane Residential. Market Lane Residential exists to support vulnerable single adults with substance misuse issues, guiding them towards healthy and independent lifestyles. 7 volunteers from Disney spent the morning decorating the main entrance and dining hall in preparation for the 27 guests invited to attend. The meal was prepared with the help of volunteers at Market Lane and after everyone ate to their hearts content a Christmas quiz and karaoke competition followed suit. Guests and volunteers had a great time, with one service user stating that it was ‘the best Christmas party I’ve had in years’!

The final destination for Disney volunteers was the Pre School Learning Alliance (PSLA). 30 volunteers transformed the main hall at The Polish Centre into a Winter Wonderland adventure for 150 toddlers. Not only did the children have lots to eat, they were also entertained with a bubble blowing machine, balloon twister and puppet show. Furthermore, they could also create their own Christmas tree, design a Christmas card, have their faces painted and dress up as a Disney character! The afternoon ended with a sing-a-long and everyone involved had a wonderful time, especially Josie Tsuchihashi, Sub-Committee Manager. “What can I say - ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT - thank you so much for all your hard work and support. I can truthfully say that all the children had a really magical time”.

Works4U would also like to thank Disney for their kind contribution towards the Christmas Gifts Drive. Hundreds of children in the Borough received various toys, books and cclothes, courtesy of the staff at Disney.
