The headmistress of the West London Free Primary School welcomed the volunteers from Huron Consulting upon arrival at 10:00am on Friday morning, after which they received a Health and Safety Briefing from the Works4U staff. Following this, the volunteers were split into two teams – one team focusing on painting the allotment area, the other focusing on building a new planter.

By the end of the day, the team had built a new planter, repainted the entire wall and moved all the soil away from the wall to create space for a future outdoor classroom. Huron Consulting played a vital role in understanding the schools vision of bringing this space to life.

From this day forward, the area will be used to teach children about growing food and healthy eating. Each Primary School Class will also be given the opportunity to adopt one planter to look after. This project, which could not be completed without the support of the volunteers, will have a long term impact for the school.

Quote
“We just can’t believe the transformation and how much the volunteers got done in just a few hours. You can really see the potential of this space now.”
Yasmin Pritchard, West London Free Primary School
